The Lucknow Super Giants is an IPL franchise cricket team based in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. It was formed in 2021 and competes in the Indian Premier League. The team’s principal owner is Sanjeev Goenka, while KL Rahul serves as the team captain and Andy Flower as the coach. Gautam Gambhir is the team’s mentor.

Despite being a newcomer in the league, Lucknow Super Giants made it to the playoffs in their debut season, which was considered an impressive feat.

The Lucknow Super Giants were busy during the February 2022 mega auction, acquiring a number of players, especially all-rounders, including international stars such as Quinton de Kock, Mark Wood, Krunal Pandya, and Marcus Stoinis. They appointed KL Rahul as the team’s captain, with former Zimbabwean cricketer Andy Flower as the head coach, and Gautam Gambhir as the team mentor for the upcoming season.

However, the team faced some challenges during the initial phase of the season. Marcus Stoinis was unavailable due to his ongoing commitments with the Australian team, and Mark Wood had to withdraw due to injury. The franchise brought in Australian bowler Andrew Tye as a replacement to fulfill the team’s requirement for a pace bowler in the first season.

Despite these challenges, the Lucknow Super Giants performed well in their first season of IPL, finishing third in the table and qualifying for the playoffs. However, they were eliminated in the Eliminator Match by fourth-placed Royal Challengers Bangalore, ending their campaign.
