IPL 2014 Summary, Winner, Final Results, Points Table

The 2014 Indian Premier League (IPL) was the seventh edition of the popular Twenty20 cricket league. It was held from April 16 to June 1, 2014, with a total of 60 matches played among 8 teams. The tournament was held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to the Indian general elections being held in the same period.

The defending champions, the Mumbai Indians, started the tournament with a loss against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). However, they soon bounced back with a win against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and went on to win five of their next seven matches. Meanwhile, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), led by their captain MS Dhoni, had a good start to the tournament with four wins in their first six matches.

The tournament saw a number of high-scoring matches and exciting moments. In the end, the Kolkata Knight Riders emerged as the champions, winning their second title in three years. They defeated the Kings XI Punjab in the final by 3 wickets, chasing down a mammoth total of 199 in just 19.3 overs.

The Knight Riders’ campaign got off to a shaky start, with just two wins in their first seven matches. However, they turned things around in the latter half of the tournament, winning seven of their next eight matches to finish second in the league stage. In the playoffs, they defeated the Chennai Super Kings in the first qualifier before setting up a final clash with the Kings XI Punjab.

The Kings XI Punjab had been the standout team of the league stage, finishing at the top of the points table with 11 wins from 14 matches. Their batting lineup, led by the dynamic opening pair of Virender Sehwag and Glenn Maxwell, had been in devastating form throughout the tournament. In the final, they posted a daunting total of 199/4, with Manan Vohra top-scoring with 67 off 52 balls.

In response, the Knight Riders got off to a flying start thanks to their opening duo of Robin Uthappa and Gautam Gambhir. Uthappa was in sensational form throughout the tournament and he continued his good run in the final, scoring 39 off 32 balls. Gambhir, on the other hand, played a captain’s knock, scoring 35 off 28 balls.

After the openers were dismissed, the Knight Riders’ middle order took charge, with Manish Pandey and Yusuf Pathan playing crucial innings. Pandey scored a blistering 50 off 26 balls, while Pathan scored a quickfire 36 off just 22 balls. In the end, it was Piyush Chawla who hit the winning runs, smashing a six off the second-last ball of the match to seal a memorable victory for the Knight Riders.

Overall, the 2014 IPL was a highly entertaining tournament, with plenty of ups and downs for all the teams involved. It was a fitting end to the tournament, with two of the most consistent teams of the season battling it out in a thrilling final.

One of the highlights of the tournament was the outstanding performance by Glenn Maxwell, who was playing for the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). Maxwell scored 552 runs in 16 matches, including four half-centuries and one century. He was also named the player of the tournament for his outstanding performance.

Another notable performance came from the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) bowler, Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Kumar took 20 wickets in 14 matches and was awarded the Purple Cap for being the highest wicket-taker of the tournament.
